An accomplished junior player, Bacsinszky turned pro in 2003, made her Top 100 debut in 2007 (just after her 18th birthday), and cracked the Top 50 in 2008. She won her first WTA singles title at Luxembourg in 2009.

After a handful of seasons marred by injuries, which included left foot surgery, Bacsinszky took an extended break from tennis, but returned in 2013 with her biggest successes yet to come.
