Baltacha passed away last month due to liver cancer, and tennis stars have been coming together.

She would make the second round - and even hold match point against Camila Giorgi for the quarters.

Meanwhile, there were some major upsets brewing, including Agnieszka Radwanska's first round exit.

And Azarenka, a former No.1, who succumbed to Giorgi in an incredibly competitive first rounder.

Giorgi would eventually fall to Caroline Wozniacki in the quarterfinals in another tough three-setter.

Wozniacki's path to the semifinals included a hard-fought straight set win over Samantha Stosur.

And so the final four was set - and Wozniacki was just edged by someone with similarly Polish roots...
