As the Race heads to Doha, Nathalie Dechy gives advice on who you should pick for WTA Fantasy Tennis.
Kiki Bertens
“Kiki Bertens is rising up, slowly but surely, stepping into the Top 10 not that long ago and of course she’s coming off the title at St Petersburg last week. I think she’s doing an amazing job with her coach Raemon Sluiter, she’s really powerful and is getting a lot of balls back, and she’s a good server. I remember well that the courts in Doha play fast, and I think the conditions will suit her.”
Ashleigh Barty
“I like the game of Ashleigh Barty very much. She made a great start to the year in the face of a lot of expectation in Australia. She’s a multi-surface player with an all-round game that can adapt well to faster surfaces. I think she will keep climbing and earn a place in the Top 10 quite soon.”
Elina Svitolina
“I think Elina Svitolina is a strong contender after her strong finish to 2018. I’m impressed by her ability to move around the court, although she can be overpowered if the surface is fast. But she has proven she is able to play well in the Middle East conditions with her back-to-back titles in Dubai, so she has to be one of the favorites in Doha as well.”
Caroline Wozniacki
“I don’t think Caroline Wozniacki has really found her rhythm yet for 2019. She needs to trust herself physically – going through her health issues must trouble her confidence. But I feel that if she starts winning a couple of big fights the momentum could make her dangerous.”
Caroline Garcia
“For my outside pick I’d like to go for Caroline Garcia. Obviously she’s French! She hasn’t been very consistent lately, but it is good to see her back in the Fed Cup team and I think the different energy and training in that situation can provide her with a chance to reset and build her confidence back up. We all know with her A-Game she can compete with the very best and win this kind of tournament.”
