Sofia Kenin has climbed to a career-high ranking of WTA World No.33 off the back of her run to the Abierto Mexicano TELCEL presentado por HSBC final.
The American No.5 beat Rebecca Peterson, Katie Boulter, Victoria Azarenka and Bianca Andreescu in Acapulco before falling in three dramatic sets to Wang Yafan.
She has the consolation, however, of jumping two spots upwards on the WTA Rankings and continuing her impressive ascent.
Kenin broke the Top 100 for the first time almost exactly a year ago and now has her eyes set on a strong run at the BNP Paribas Open, which could see her break the Top 30.
Meanwhile, 18-year-old Andreescu strengthened her grip on the Canadian No.1 spot with her run to the semifinals in Acapulco.
The teenager has broken new ground in her career as a consequence, climbing to WTA World No.60.
Her previous highest rank was 68.
Here are the other big movers from the last week:
Wang Yafan (+16, No.65 to No.49): Leapt into the Top 50 for the first time in her career off the back of victory at the Mexican Open, where she beat Donna Vekic and Sofia Kenin. That was her first WTA Tour title.
Viktorija Golubic (+21, No.103 to No.82): Enjoyed a fine week at the Oracle Challenger Series – Indian Wells, winning the tournament after beating No.1 seed Wang Qiang in the semifinals and saving a match point in the final against Jennifer Brady.
Jennifer Brady (+11, No.94 to No.83): Has hit her highest position of 2019 after reaching the final in Indian Wells. Beat the in-form Alison Riske in straight sets to reach that stage.
Beatriz Haddad Maia (+22, No.172 to No.150): After a year spent knocking on the door of the Top 50, the Brazilian’s form fell away in the second half of 2018. Now up to her highest ranking since September after reaching the quarterfinals in Indian Wells as a qualifier.
Jessika Ponchet (+41, No.231 to No.190): The 22-year-old has broken the Top 200 for the first time following her success in an ITF event in Glasgow.
