Petra Kvitova will return to Madrid to defend her title as the 2019 Mutua Madrid Open gets under way, with main draw play beginning on Saturday May 4.

The winner of the tournament will take home a check for €1,202,520.

The runner-up wins €608,700, with each semifinalist receiving €312, 215.

The final eight get €160,920, while players reaching the third round win €80,620.

Reaching the second round will mean a player gets €42,220, while those in the first round win €19,805.

Kvitova beat Kiki Bertens in last year's final 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-3 to win her record third Madrid title, and they are joined in the draw by two-time champion Simona Halep and former finalists Caroline Wozniacki, Victoria Azarenka and Dominika Cibulkova, as well as World No.1 Naomi Osaka.

In the doubles, the winning team will share a check for €357,540, with the finalists splitting a prize of €174,485. Last year's champions were Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, who defeated Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic 2-6, 6-4, [10-8] in the final.
