PARIS, France - Madison Keys has thanked her fellow players for their support for Kinder Girl World Day.
The American helped launch last week's event, a campaign designed to help put a stop to toxic behavior among girls online, and replace it with kindness and confidence building.
Participants were asked to help change the world one day, one post and one girl at a time, and were challenged to tag and recognize a fellow girl or woman on social media.
"It was so great to see how it did," Keys said of the input of her fellow professionals. "I was a little bit nervous, it being the first year and all, but I got a ton of support from my fellow WTA players which was awesome.
"The players all came up to me before the day and they were all saying how excited they were. Just to see that support was really really special."
Ahead of the French Open, the WTA World No.14 added: "Some other sports like figure-skating, and even the US women's Olympic team - we got a lot of other sports and other athletes to participate as well. When [Colombian pop singer] Shakira retweeted it, I was like: 'Wow, I've made it, Shakira retweeted it, we've done it!
"It was really great, to see the response that it got was amazing and we are definitely shooting for it to be an annual thing.
'It exceeded my expectations as far as how many people got to interact with it. We had 100 million interactions between everyone's Facebook, and Instagram and Twitter and all that. I wasn't expecting the number quite that high, very happily surprised by it."
