BOL, Croatia - It was a perfect day for the seeds on the first day of main draw play at the Croatia Bol Open.
All five seeded players advanced to the second round of the WTA 125K event on Tuesday, losing just one set combined between them.
Leading the charge was No.2 seed Sara Sorribes Tormo, who came through a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia, avenging a loss to the Spaniard from the Claro Open Colsanitas in Bogotá earlier this spring.
No.4 seed Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, famously two points away from a victory over World No.1 Naomi Osaka in Paris a week ago, returned to the courts with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Bibiane Schoofs, while a pair of Swiss seeds also advanced without the loss of a set.
No.6 seed and Prague champion Jil Teichmann was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Irina-Camelia Begu, while No.7 seed Timea Bacsinskzy was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over American Anna Tatishvili.
Rounding out the seeded victors was the lone winner to drop a set, No.5 seed Astra Sharma of Australia, who came from a set down to defeat Kazakh wildcard Anna Danilina, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 in over two hours.
The Aussie came from a break down in the deciding set, and saved two match points on her serve in the 10th game.
Unseeded winners on Tuesday were Nao Hibino, Ana Bogdan and Tereza Mrdeza, while the other three seeds are set to begin their campaigns on Wednesday.
Three former winners are set to play, as top seed and defending champion Tamara Zidansek takes on inaugural winner Mandy Minella, while No.3 seed and 2017 champion Aleksandra Krunic takes on teenager Olga Danilovic in an all-Serbian affair.
