The weather forecast is for a fair day, with a 10% chance of rain. The temperature is expected to top out at 22°C (72°F).
Ashleigh Barty is seeded No.1 at a Grand Slam event for the first time.
The Australian is currently on a 12-match winning streak, having won titles at the French Open and Birmingham in successive weeks, helping her to WTA World No.1.
She has won all of her previous three meetings with Saisai Zheng, only one of which has been in a main draw. That came in Wuhan last year, when the Australian came through, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
No.4 seed Kiki Bertens has reached the second week of majors on only three of the 28 occasions she has played in the main draw.
This will be the first time that the Dutchwoman has faced Minella since 2010. Their head-to-head record stands at 1-1.
Angelique Kerber, the No.5 seed, is defending a major for the third time in her career. In Australia 2017 she reached the fourth round but then later that year at the US Open she fell at the first hurdle.
Tatjana Maria actually beat her compatriot in their only previous meeting, though that was a qualifier on Barcelona’s clay in 2009.
Two-time champion Petra Kvitova might have faced Ons Jabeur in the final of Eastbourne last week but the Tunisian was forced to withdraw from her semifinal injured. They have never previously met.
Sloane Stephens has won her two previous matches against Timea Bacsinszky without dropping a set. The most recent of these was a Fed Cup match earlier this year.
No.11 seed Serena Williams will play Wimbledon for the 19th time and has eight titles to her credit.
If Serena were to win the tournament, it would take her to 99 wins at Wimbledon in singles play.
Giulia Gatto-Monticone, who will face the American in the first round, will play her first main draw at SW19 aged 31. It is only her second Grand Slam main draw, having been knocked out in the first round at Roland Garros.
British No.1 Johanna Konta won her only previous meeting with Ana Bogdan in Rabat earlier this year.
Amanda Anisimova may be the No.25 seed, but she has never previously played Wimbledon at senior level, even in qualifying.
