MATCH POINTS

WTA World No.3 Karolina Pliskova

has picked up vicotries in both her previous meetings with Anett Kontaveit but did not have it all her own way when the pair met in Indian Wells earlier this year, coming out on top, 7-6(0), 4-6, 6-2.

Coming into this tournament, Kiki Bertens had won an impressive 73% of her matches on Tour this year, picking up 40 wins and suffering just 15 defeats.

Bianca Andreescu

is playing in her first tournament since the French Open, having suffered shoulder problems. The teenager is enjoying a stunning breakthrough year, which has already seen her win on the hard courts of Indian Wells.

Canadian Andreescu has a 23-4 record for 2019.

Simona Halep has a 4-3 winning record in her career against Svetlana Kuznetsova, though it is 2-2 on hard courts. Both of those Halep wins came at the Rogers Cup, including the most recent match between the pair back in 2016.

Serena Williams is chasing her fourth Rogers Cup title, the first of which came back in 2001. The American has since taken the 2011 and 2013 crowns. She has never faced Ekaterina Alexandrova

before.

By defeating Caroline Wozniacki

, claimed her first victory over a Top 15 player in her career. Her only previous experience against a player of that calibre was a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Simona Halep at the French Open, and she faces another former WTA World No.1 in on Thursday.

Sofia Kenin

has had a week to remember, with her victory over WTA World No.1 Ashleigh Barty her first win over a Top 5 player.

Kenin has won back-to-back matches for the first time since she picked up the title in Mallorca.

Dayana Yastremska

is, like opponent Kenin, aiming for her seventh WTA quarterfinal. She has scored notable wins over Johanna Konta and this week.

The pair have met once before, at Wimbledon last month. Yastremska won, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in a two-hour spectacular.

Belinda Bencic

has won both her previous matches against , including in Dubai earlier this year. Both have been on hard courts but both have been hard-fought three setters.
