MATCH POINTS

Petra Kvitova leads the head-to-head against Garbiñe Muguruza 3-1, including 2-1 on hard courts, and has won their last three matches - in the Stüttgart quarterfinals and Beijing third round in 2016 (6-1, 3-6, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-4 respectively), and the fourth round of the US Open last year 7-6(3), 6-3. Muguruza's sole victory over the Czech came in the round robin stages of the 2015 WTA Finals, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

Garbiñe Muguruza is going for her sixth career title today, fifth at Premier 5 level or above, and first since Cincinnati last August. The Spaniard has a 5-3 record in finals, and has not lost a title match since October 2015, when she retired against Venus Williams in Wuhan. Each of her final victories has also come in straight sets, including thrice bagelling her opponent.

Petra Kvitova is shooting for her 22nd career title, ninth at Premier 5 level or above and second of 2018 following her victory at the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy earlier this month. The Czech owns a 21-7 record in finals, including her last three; she has not lost a title match since falling to Monica Niculescu in the final of Luxembourg in October 2016.

Petra Kvitova has dropped two sets in five matches en route to the final - to Agnieszka Radwanska in the second round and Caroline Wozniacki in the semifinals. By contrast, Garbiñe Muguruza has dropped just one set, to Caroline Garcia in the quarterfinals, in three matches, having received a first-round bye and a semifinal walkover from Simona Halep.

Garbiñe Muguruza is guaranteed to move back up to World No.3 whether she wins or loses today's final. Petra Kvitova will be World No.14 if she loses, but victory would send her all the way to World No.10 - which would mark her first time in the Top 10 since June 2016.

In the doubles final, No.8 seeds Andreja Klepac and María José Martínez Sánchez are in their second final of the year, following their Brisbane final run in January, and are going for their second title together following the Toray Pan Pacific Open, Tokyo last September. It would be Martínez Sánchez's 19th doubles title and Klepac's sixth. Meanwhile, Gabriela Dabrowski is going for her seventh doubles title and first with Jelena Ostapenko; the Latvian has a perfect 2-0 record in doubles finals to date, and victory here would mark her third Premier-or-above title with as many partners.
