Mutua Madrid Open runner-up Kiki Bertens has bounced up the rankings after her journey to the final in Spain - climbing five places to make it to World No.15, her career high.

The Dutchwoman gave Petra Kvitova a tough test, but eventually lost out 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-3.

Maria Sharapova (+12, No.52 to No.40): The Russian is steadily making progress back towards the top, beating Mihaela Buzarnescu, Irina-Camelia Begu, and Kristina Mladenovic en route to the Madrid quarterfinal.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich (+7, No.58 to No.51): The 24-year-old beat Danielle Collins in the Madrid first round, and gave Anett Kontaveit a stern test in the Round of 32 before falling 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

Bernarda Pera (+23, No.97 to No.74): It's a new career high for the American, who beat Aryna Sabalenka and Johanna Konta in Madrid but found Carla Suárez Navarro a challenge too far, falling 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 to the Spaniard.

Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (+5, No.84 to No.79): The Slovakian swept through qualifying in Madrid, taking out Gabriela Dabrowski then Bethanie Mattek-Sands, but lost to 15th seed Anastasia Sevastova 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in the Round of 64.

Victoria Azarenka (+14, No.98 to No.84): The former World No.1 is making steady progress following her time away from the game, but was defeated by sixth seed Karolina Pliskova in Madrid, losing 6-2, 1-6, 7-5.
