NURNBERG, Germany - Tennis coach and former Great Britain Fed Cup captain Judy Murray helped WTA Charities give back to the local community this week, leading a round of kids clinics and providing mentoring to members of the WTA Coaches Program at the Nurnberger Versicherungscup.
Murray spent the week providing on and off court mentoring to both WTA and local German coaches. It’s all a part of the WTA Coaches Program, which was established in 2017 “to professionalize, standardize, and recognize the important role of coaching on the WTA.”
As a part of the program, coaches are given access to benefits at WTA tournaments - including professional development opportunities like Murray’s mentoring workshops.
Check out the photos below to see Artemon Apostu (Gold level coach of Irina-Camelia Begu), Liu Shuo (Gold level coach of Zhang Shuai) and local German coaches take part in Murray’s mentoring sessions.
In addition to her coaching and mentoring, Murray organized a Miss Hits clinic for girls, with a bit help from Andrea Petkovic, Sorana Cirstea and German wildcard Ana Zaja. Miss Hits aims to inspire young girls to play tennis by providing a fun, all-girl environment in which to learn the game.
After the clinic, WTA Charities donated kits and equipment to local organization to encourage girls to continue playing tennis.
