Style heats up summer hard courts: July fashion favorites

The start of the US Open Series in late July welcomed a plethora of new colorful designs in tennis fashion to the courts.

Marija Zivlak of Women’s Tennis Blog gives an overview of the best outfits introduced to the WTA courts as the summer swing getsunderway.

There’s no better way to celebrate colors after the all-white Wimbledon than to wear a long-sleeved red dress.

Serena Williams is fierce competition both on the court and on the tennis fashion scene.

The American made this bold outfit by Nike even bolder by pairing the dress with fishnet tights.

Serena’s eye-catching appearance is further enhanced by her red Wilson racquet bag that features subtle leopard print.

Serena’s gold initials on her warmup jacket are a stylish detail that reflect her legendary status in tennis.

Kristina Mladenovic also opted for red this summer. Stella McCartney, who designs the Frenchwoman’s adidas apparel, made an odd combination of colors look perfect, pairing a core red skort with a dim red (officially called coffee rose) tank.

The outfit is rich in textures -- scalloped chest, laser-cut perforations, snakeskin details, ribbed insets, ventilated mesh.

Victoria Azarenka looks flawless in Nike’s fall collection, in particular the Slam Tank in white, a breathable racerback top updated with a soft Dri-Fit jersey, and the pleated Victory Skirt, whose contrasting exposed elastic waistband gives a perfect finish to the classic look.

A green headband and its matching wristbands put Vika’s signature on this sporty feminine outfit.

San Jose runner-up  Maria Sakkari of Greece looked just as stunning in a different color combination of the same Nike outfit.

Amanda Anisimova made a fashion statement with her all-black ensemble, the Nike Summer Maria Tank and Nike Summer Maria Skirt.

The American youngster gave an edge to the slim racerback top by wearing the strappy open-back Nike Indy Cooling Bra, while the skirt’s mesh side panels are a subtle stylish touch.

American Sachia Vickery, who joined the K-Swiss family in January, gave new life to the traditional palette of navy, red and white.

A refreshed take on classic tennis colors and silhouettes always brings the best results.

The skirt with pleats at the sides perfectly suits Vickery’s figure, while its striped waistband nicely complements the tank’s contrast piping.

Qualifier Georgina Garcia Perez of Spain lost in the first round of the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic, but her Lotto dress was ready to lift the trophy.

From time to time, Lotto creates tennis dresses that have a disco vibe and this Fall Space Dress with its all-over sequin-inspired print is the latest in that series.

Adjustable tank straps and the skirt’s side slits are functional details that add to the uniqueness of this item.
