WTA Fantasy: How to Play

WTA Fantasy Tennis is back for 2019, giving you the opportunity to take on friends, fellow fans and international experts!
The new-and-improved Porsche Race to Shenzhen Challenge is completely free to enter—and will reward the very best fantasy players with money-can’t-buy prizes and VIP trips to WTA tournaments to meet the stars of the game!
The fantasy game consists of two challenges, which run concurrently:
- The Season Challenge, where you select the eight players you believe will qualify for the 2018 BNP Paribas WTA Finals Shenzhen.
- The Tournament Challenge, where you pick six players (four starters and two back-ups) at 23 select Premier level WTA and Grand Slam events throughout the season.
In both challenges, you earn fantasy points equal to the WTA ranking points of your selected players. The better they do on court, the higher up the leaderboard you will climb.
HOW TO PLAY: QUICK SUMMARY
- Sign up for free at wtatennis.com/fantasy from your desktop or mobile device.
- Select the eight players you think will make the WTA Finals in the Season Challenge. Your selected players only start earning points when you ‘lock’ them in. The earlier you lock, the more points you will earn—but you cannot change those picks.
- Pick four starters and two alternates for the upcoming WTA event in the Tournament Challenge. You can make your picks up to two weeks before each event and update them up to 15 minutes before the first match of the main draw.
- Keep your picks updated, set up an optional private league with your friends and track your progress on the tournament leaderboard!
Read on for more detail on how to play—and succeed—in the Porsche Race to Shenzhen Challenge.
THE SEASON CHALLENGE
The object of the Season Challenge is to accurately pick the eight players who will reach the 2018 WTA Finals in Shenzhen.
Here’s the tricky part: your chosen players will only start earning points when you ‘lock’ them in.
You can lock any player at any time—the sooner you do, the sooner you start racking up points equivalent to that player’s WTA ranking points.
Once they have qualified for the 2019 WTA Finals, they will no longer be available for selection.
THE TOURNAMENT CHALLENGE
The biggest proportion of your points tally in the Porsche Race to Shenzhen Challenge will likely come from the Tournament Challenge.
In the Tournament Challenge, fantasy players pick four starters and two back-ups at 23 WTA events in 2018 (including the French Open and the US Open).
Players can be selected two weeks before the start of any given tournament and changes can be made up until 15 minutes before the opening match.
Once the draw is complete, the player field will be updated to account for withdrawals and wild cards. Any starters who withdraw before the main draw begins will be replaced by one of your alternates.
