TAIPEI, Chinese Taipei - She's been touted as a future WTA champion, and now she's the next-best thing - Alison Van Uytvanck won her first WTA 125K Series title at the OEC Taipei WTA Ladies Open.

Serving up a storm - she held all nine of her service games, not even facing a break point - Van Uytvanck powered past No.2 seed and fellow Belgian Yanina Wickmayer in Sunday's final, 64 62.

"I was a bit nervous in the beginning, and I think she was as well, with two Belgians playing against each other in a final," Van Uytvanck said. "But I broke her in the first game of the match, which was a great start for me because I was serving well all week and I knew it would be hard for her to break me.

"Then I got two breaks immediately in the second set, which was even better. I just played a very good match today - I'm so happy with the level I performed and it's just great to end my season like this."

Before this week, Van Uytvanck's biggest triumphs came on the ITF Women's Circuit, where she has nine titles to her name - this is now her biggest, and it could be a springboard for bigger things in 2014.

"For the moment I've played a lot of ITF tournaments, and WTAs are more points to win, so this title will for sure help me get my ranking up to play more WTAs," she said. "I'm looking forward to 2014."

Wickmayer has definitely reached some of the highest heights in her career, a Grand Slam semifinalist at the 2009 US Open and a three-time WTA champion, a former World No.12 as well - but on this day the 24-year-old's 19-year-old countrywoman was just too good, and she was very gracious afterwards.

"First of all I want to congratulate Alison for a great week," Wickmayer said. "I did what I could, but she was just too good. She played too well for me today and she's a great, up-and-coming player.

"Other than that I had a great week. I played some good matches and enjoyed my time here. It's always nice to be in Taipei - last time I was here was a few years ago, and I really enjoyed it then too."

This was the fifth and final WTA 125K Series event of the year, with Lara Arruabarrena winning in Cali, Colombia; Shahar Peer winning in Suzhou, China; Bojana Jovanovski winning in Ningbo, China; Zhang Shuai winning in Nanjing, China; and Van Uytvanck wrapping up the list in Taipei, Chinese Taipei.

The first two WTA 125K Series tournaments took place last fall, with Kristina Mladenovic winning the very first event in the series' history here in Taipei, before Elina Svitolina won in Pune, India.
