NEW YORK, NY, USA - The final Grand Slam of 2017 is just around the corner, and the newly released draw sets the stage for a thrilling conclusion at the US Open.
Reigning Wimbledon champion Garbiñe Muguruza comes to Flushing with major momentum after winning the Western & Southern Open and denying Simona Halep the chance to become WTA World No.1 in Cincinnati.
Muguruza and Halep are joined by six other women who have a chance to take No.1 from top-ranked Karolina Pliskova, who aims for her maiden major title after a solid showing during the US Open Series.
Halep will have her work cut out for her from the first match, as the Romanian takes on 2006 champion Maria Sharapova in a rematch of their 2014 French Open final. Sharapova has never lost to Halep in six previous meetings, but is playing just her second tournament since retiring in second round of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, pulling out of the Bank of the West Classic after one match citing a left forearm injury.
Courtney Nguyen and David Kane report on the draw and provide their analysis on that exciting first round, along with commentary on an ever-stabilizing top tier of women who will battle for the US Open trophy.
