Julia Goerges had a resurgent end to her 2017 season and as a result, you rewarded the 29-year-old with the title of WTA Breakthrough of the Month for October. 

The veteran German edged Belarusian teenager Aryna Sabalenka by just under 300 votes for the title, after ending the season with two consecutive titles and a nine-match winning streak.

After not tasting victory in a WTA event since the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in 2011, Goerges won the VTB Kremlin Cup in Moscow and Hengqin Life WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai in back-to-back weeks.

The made three finals over the summer in Mallorca, Bucharest, and Washington D.C., before winning her first title in six years in Moscow over Daria Kasatkina. 

She then proceeded to go undefeated in Zhuhai with wins over Kristina Mladenovic, Magdalena Rybarikova, Anastasija Sevastova, and CoCo Vandeweghe to rise to a career-high ranking of No.14 and supplant Angelique Kerber as German No.1.
