MIAMI, FL, USA - Former World No.30 Bethanie Mattek-Sands has announced via social media that she is aiming to return to the singles court at the Miami Open later this month.

The 32-year-old, whose horrific knee dislocation and ruptured patella tendon sent shockwaves around the world during Wimbledon last year, is due to return to doubles competition next week at the BNP Paribas Open alongside Lucie Safarova. It will be the first time Mattek-Sands has played since being forced to retire during that second-round match at SW19 against Sorana Cirstea.

Mattek-Sands will be returning during a swing where she has historically found success. The American made her first Premier Mandatory doubles final in Indian Wells back in 2011, alongside Meghann Shaughnessy. That year, the pair fell to Sania Mirza and Elena Vesnina in the final - but five years on, partnering CoCo Vandeweghe, Mattek-Sands would lift the title at last.

The former doubles World No.1 is also a former Miami doubles champion, having also won that trophy in 2016 alongside Lucie Safarova. As a wildcard singles entrant last year, she upset both Elina Svitolina and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to reach the fourth round, spurring a return to the Top 100 in June - just a few weeks before her renaissance was sadly curtailed. Now ranked No.136, Mattek-Sands will embark on one of the most challenging comebacks of a career that's seen several already.

Also fully fit and ready to go is Julia Goerges. The German was forced to retire from her quarterfinal match against Petra Kvitova in Doha two weeks ago with a hip injury, but has announced via social media that she has resumed training.

"My hip has recovered well so I can prepare the best I can for my upcoming trip to the US," the World No.12 wrote on Instagram. "I am very happy about it and really looking forward competing in Indian Wells, Miami and Charleston."
