The legendary Conchita Martinez will be ambassador for this year's Mallorca Open, running from June 17 to 24.
"It is essential for the development of tennis in Spain to have events in the different categories," the former World No.2 said at a press conference. "And the Mallorca Open is the only international tournament we have. In addition, it is always very nice to play at home, on grass... it is a spectacular opportunity for the players."
Toni Nadal, Tournament Director, added that this year's Mallorca Open will be the best so far,
with a field including former World No.1s Victoria Azarenka and Angelique Kerber alongside Caroline Garcia, Carla Suárez Navarro, Agnieszka Radwanska, Samantha Stosur and Lucie Safarova, as well as defending champion Anastasija Sevastova.
“This will be without doubt the best edition of the Mallorca Open, but not only for the stars,"
said the Tournament Director. "The improvement at the infrastructure level, as well as in other
aspects, will make us take a big step in terms of quality."
