PARIS, France - No.2 seed Caroline Wozniacki served notice of her watertight form with an emphatic 6-0, 6-3 third-round defeat of wildcard Pauline Parmentier at Roland Garros in one hour and 18 minutes.

"I feel pretty good," she smiled afterwards. "I think I played some solid tennis, and I'm happy to be through to the fourth round here again."

The result moves the Australian Open champion into the second week in Paris for the third time in total, following quarterfinal finishes in 2010 and 2017.

The Frenchwoman had taken a set from Wozniacki in each of their two most recent meetings: a three set loss in the first round of Bastad last year, and a paper victory in the quarterfinals of Istanbul five weeks ago, when the Dane retired at a set all. Indeed, Parmentier had gone on to take the title in the Turkish capital - her first WTA trophy in a decade.

However, the 32-year-old was unable to replicate that form against a fully-fit Wozniacki today. The WTA Finals champion played within herself, methodically steering the ball around the court to test Parmentier's consistency and movement.

The World No.74 did not pass those tests. With her backhand breaking down in the opening stages, she opted to run around it - but succeeded only in repeatedly leaving an open court into which Wozniacki could redirect the ball. 

Attempting to be more aggressive on that wing only led to more mistakes, and Parmentier would eventually reach a first-set tally of 13 unforced errors compared to Wozniacki's meagre four.

Over the course of a 21-minute bagel set, the former World No.1 would limit her opponent to a mere six points, and towards the end began to expand her repertoire: a magnificent final break of serve was won with a canny dropshot, a stunning pass on the run and a powerful backhand winner.

The second set began with a glimmer of hope for Parmentier, as she won a 22-shot rally in style with a forehand winner before carving out her first break points of the match. But strong serving from the two-time US Open finalist staved those off, and the match settled back into the pattern established in the first set.

The Istanbul champion was now making more inroads into games, but even a brief rain delay could not help her find respite. Indeed, following the break at 2-0, deuce, it was Wozniacki who resumed the match in sharper form to take the first point with a clever combination of a big backhand down the line followed up with a dropshot.

On the verge of the dreaded double bagel, Parmentier continued to battle hard - and was rewarded by, at long last, her forehand finding its range. A flurry of winners off that wing enabled the local favorite, now with an awakened crowd firmly behind her, to hold, break and hold again.

But although Parmentier came within two points of getting the match back on serve, Wozniacki conjured up an excellent reflex volley to get out of danger - and sealed victory as a clever forehand slice elicited another error from her opponent.

Next up for the World No.2 is a sterner test in No.14 seed Daria Kasatkina - who already has two wins over Wozniacki this season in St. Petersburg and Indian Wells.
