EASTBOURNE, Great Britain - British No.1 Johanna Konta got the last week of her Wimbledon tune-up underway with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Serbia's Aleksandra Krunic in the second round of the Nature Valley International.

Playing her third tournament in a row on home soil, Konta had little trouble in dispatching the Libéma Open champion in 74 minutes, exacting a measure of revenge for a first round defeat at the US Open last summer in the pair's first career meeting.

"I think I really tried to play the right way and the way that was going to bring me the most opportunities. It definitely wasn't an easy match...and I know how well she can play, especially coming off winning a tournament," Konta said after the match.

"I knew she was going to be difficult to play and I'm happy that I was able to keep my focus on my side of the net and do what I set out to do. I think overall I was just happy that I played quite a consistent match, and I kept sticking to that."

After winning her first career title in 's-Hertogenbosch, Krunic withdrew from the Mallorca Open last week with a right elbow injury, but rebounded to defeat qualifier Andrea Sestini Hlavackova in the first round.

The Serb returned to the courts in Eastbourne with a heavily taped right arm, before also receiving a medical timeout in between sets of Tuesday's encounter for treatment on her left knee.

Despite injury concerns, the World No.39 battled hard in the second set before suffering her first loss on grass this season, and forced the former Wimbledon semifinalist to play some of her best tennis to reach the third round.

The Brit struck 29 winners to 17 unforced errors in the match and never lost serve. The World No.22 dropped just 10 points on her delivery overall, as she saved both break points she faced and served four aces.

"I think I'm definitely looking to move forward a bit more, and just really take advantage of that side of my game," she said. "I went into the match know that I had played her before...and I was playing her with the intention that I was playing her today, and what form she's in."

Konta and Wozniacki will square off for the first time in over a year, as the Brit did not drop a set against the Dane in two meetings a season ago.

In 2017, Konta recorded victories at the Australian Open, and in the final of the Miami Open to win her first Premier Mandatory title.

"I'm looking forward to that," Konta said. "I haven't played her in quite some time and she's obviously a Grand Slam champion this year, playing some great tennis, so I'll look forward to that battle.

"It's a great opportunity for me to play one of the best players in the world. It's what I want to be doing, and the players I want to be playing against. I think it'll be a great chance for me to keep looking to raise my level and do the best that I can against someone like her.

"Both matches I think were a lot closer than the scoreline. She's a very tough competitor, and I just go out there and do what I look to in pretty much every match that I play - and that's looking to dictate, and move forward and be brave. I think I'm going to be playing on tomorrow's challenge and not necessarily how it went the previous two times that I played her."
