Coaching/Hitting Partner Career Highlights:
• Helped Anett Kontaveit reproduce her junior success in the senior ranks in 2015, cracking the Top 100 and enjoying a breakthrough run to the fourth round at the US Open
• Joined forces with Nikoloz Basilashvili in 2016, prompting a steady ascent up the rankings and two ATP Tour runner-up finishes, at Kitzbuhel and Memphis
• The Georgian enjoyed wins over Top 10 stars Tomas Berdych and Dominic Thiem whilst working under the tutelage of Marijan
• In 2018, began working with up-and-coming British player Harriet Dart, who after a series of strong performances on the ITF Circuit was soon knocking on the door of the Top 100
• The Briton’s successful partnership with Marijan continued in 2019, coming through qualifying for the first time at the Australian Open and then posting a career-high ranking of No.121
• Dart enjoyed her best result as a professional on home soil at Wimbledon, where she advanced to the third round
• Mixed doubles semifinal run at Wimbledon in 2019 – Harriet Dart (w/Clarke)
Playing Experience:
Briefly competed on ATP Tour in 2016-17, playing a handful of doubles events in Australia, Europe and Africa. Also played collegiate tennis at Wayne State University in Detroit where he was twice named the All-GLIAC Second Team, posting win-loss records of 40-13 and 49-14 across his two years in Michigan in singles and doubles, respectively.
Personal:
After leaving Wayne State University, has been based in Istanbul, where he helps run the elite tennis program at the impressive Koza World of Sports complex. A certified coach with Tennis Australia, Marijan has sponsorship affiliations with both Yonex and Asics. Off-court interests include soccer, cinema, travel and charitable work. Speaks English & Croatian.
