Wild card Shi overcomes Ponchet in three sets to post first WTA victory
Chinese wild card Shi Han, 19, defeated qualifier Jessika Ponchet in three sets in the Guangzhou Open first round to post her first WTA main-draw win. Shi held her first two match points at 5-4 in the second set but needed a decider to seal victory.
