Andreescu survives stern test from qualifier Yamaguchi in Tokyo opener
Wild card Bianca Andreescu came from 3-1 down in the first set to defeat qualifier Mei Yamaguchi, who was playing her first WTA main-draw match, in the Toray PPO Tennis first round. The result was Andreescu's first match win since the Paris Olympic Games in July.
