Bucsa upsets Mertens in Beijing; makes first WTA 1000 Round of 16
Cristina Bucsa reached the last 16 of a WTA 1000 event for the first time in her career after upsetting No.24 seed Elise Mertens in three sets in the China Open third round. The result was Bucsa's third Top 30 win of 2024, and second of the tournament.
