MATCH POINTS
Rebecca Peterson and Ons Jabeur have never faced each other on the WTA Tour. They have, however, played on the ITF circuit, with the Swede winning, 6-2, 6-3 in Cagnes-Sur-Mer in 2018.
Jabeur is seeking to reach her second WTA Tour final after Moscow almost exactly a year ago. She had to give Angelique Kerber a walkover in her own semifinal since then, which was at Eastbourne in June.
Peterson has enjoyed far more recent success, having won Nanchang just a month ago. That is her only WTA Tour semifinal of the year.
Heather Watson will play in her first WTA Tour semi since Hobart in 2018.
The Brit, who has more main draw wins this week than she had managed combined in 2019 previously, has never faced Veronika Kudermetova before.
Watson’s quarterfinal triumph over No.8 seed Magda Linette, in which she saved four match points, stretched three hours two minutes. Kudermetova, meanwhile, has spent only three hours and five minutes on court in total so far this week.
Kudermetova has never made a WTA Tour-level final. This will be the 22-year-old’s third semi of the year, having lost to Misaki Doi in Hiroshima and Alison Riske is ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
