HOBART, Australia - A few weeks ago at the Hobart International, 20-year-old American Sofia Kenin sealed her dream week by lifting the first trophy of her WTA career: the Angie Cunningham Trophy.
Named after the respected Tasmanian player Angie Cunningham (nee Woolcock), who lost her long battle with Motor Neurone Disease in 2016, the trophy honors a beloved WTA personality who left her impact on Hobart.
To further honor her memory, WTA4Love teamed up with the WTA’s Australian tournaments, Brisbane, Sydney, and Hobart, to make a donation to FightMND.
The foundation was established “ with the purpose of funding research to one day find effective treatments and ultimately a cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).”
The check was presented in Hobart to Angie’s parents, while her two daughters, aged 12 and 9, were on hand after the final to present Kenin with the Angie Cunningham Trophy.
