Alison Van Uytvanck holds a 1-0 record over No.4 seed Aryna Sabalenka, having defeated the Belarusian 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of Mallorca last year - the week before Sabalenka made her first Premier final in Eastbourne, a tournament that spearheaded her rise into the Top 10.

No.6 seed Jelena Ostapenko has not lost a set to Australian Open quarterfinalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in two previous meetings: the Latvian was the victor 7-6(2), 6-1 in the first round of Birmingham in 2016 and 7-5, 6-1 in last April's Fed Cup World Group II play-offs.

No.2 seed Kiki Bertens last played Ysaline Bonaventure in 2015, when the Dutchwoman was still playing the ITF Pro Circuit. Bertens won both of their encounters on clay, winning 6-2, 6-1 in the second round of the Cagnes-sur-Mer W100 and 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the first round of the Sobota W75.

Qualifiers Ekaterina Alexandrova and Tereza Martincova will square off with a maiden Premier quarterfinal on the line for both. All of their previous matches have gone to three sets, and Martincova leads the head-to-head 2-1 - including a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win in the second round of Québec City in 2016, their only past encounter at WTA level. The Czech went on to make her first WTA semifinal at that tournament (out of two to date).

Ekaterina Alexandrova has won 15 of her last 16 matches on indoor hard courts: the Russian qualified and reached the final of Linz last October before rounding off her season with victory at the Limoges 125K, and this week has added to that by qualifying and making the second round - so far - here.
