18-year-old Andreescu is the third wild card in tournament history to reach the semifinals, following Martina Hingis in 2006 and Serena Williams in 2015. Andreescu has won 26 matches this season across all levels (ITF, WTA 125Ks, WTA qualifying, WTA main draw), more than any other player this year.

This is Svitolina's second Premier Mandatory semifinal of her career (also 2016 Beijing). She rallied from 3-1 down in the third set to beat Ashleigh Barty in the fourth round on Tuesday, which is the longest match of the year to date (three hours and 12 minutes).

Belinda Bencic leads the head-to-head with Angelique Kerber 3-1. Bencic won their first three meetings between 2014 and 2016, but Kerber finally claimed her first win against the Swiss player en route to the Wimbledon title last year.

Former World No.7 Bencic will return to the Top 20 on Monday due to her quarterfinal win over No.5 seed Karolina Pliskova. Bencic is on a 12-match winning streak, and six of her last eight victories have been over Top 10 players. All six of those Top 10 wins have been over different players, and she will try to add a seventh distinct player to that list against World No.8 Kerber.

This is Kerber's best Indian Wells showing since she reached back-to-back semifinals in 2012 (lost to eventual champion Victoria Azarenka) and 2013 (lost to Caroline Wozniacki).
