Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic are going for their second Grand Slam title together after winning the Australian Open in 2018, while this is the first Grand Slam final for both Duan Ying-ying and Zheng Saisai.

Mladenovic secured the World No.1 Doubles ranking after the pair won their semifinal over Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka.

Duan and Zheng are attempting to become first all-Chinese doubles team to win Roland Garros, following in the footsteps of Peng Shuai, who partnered Taipei's Hsieh Su-wei to the title in 2014.

The unseeded and untested team of Duan and Zheng have found quick success at Roland Garros after having played only one professional tournament together: in 2012, they competed an ITF Pro Circuit $25,000 event in Italy.

They have taken out three seeded teams on their way to the final. In the second round, the duo took out No.9 seeds Anna-Lena Gronefeld and Demi Schuurs in straight sets, before beating Madrid finalists and No.4 seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and Xu Yifan in the quarterfinals, and No.15 seeds Kirsten Flipkens and Johanna Larsson in the semifinals.

Mladenovic, the 2016 Roland Garros doubles champion with compatriot Caroline Garcia, is bidding to become only the third French woman to win more than one title at her home Slam in the Open Era.

Since 1968, only Françoise Dürr and Gail Chanfreau have had repeated success as doubles champions at Roland Garros.
