Seven-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams has reached the quarterfinals along with seven other women who are all seeking their first trip to a Wimbledon final.

Williams will face her compatriot Alison Riske for the first time on Tuesday. Williams has a 96-11 record at Wimbledon, and is 84-2 at the event when she has won the first set.

After defeating top seed Ashleigh Barty for her first win over a current World No.1 player, Riske is into her first Grand Slam quarterfinal. Riske's previous best showing at a Grand Slam event was reaching the fourth round at the 2013 US Open.

Riske won the second WTA singles title of her career last month on grass at s-Hertogenbosch. Riske defeated top seed Kiki Bertens in the final of that event, coming back from the loss of the first set 6-0 and saving five championship points in the process.

Zhang Shuai has beaten former World No.1 Simona Halep two times in their three meetings, including in the first round of the Australian Open in 2016, which was Zhang's first-ever match-win at a Grand Slam event. Zhang went all the way to the quarterfinals of that event, which is her only previous quarterfinal showing at a Grand Slam.

Halep reached the semifinals of Wimbledon in 2014 for her best event showing; she lost to Eugenie Bouchard in the final four. This is her fourth Wimbledon quarterfinal, having also reached this stage in 2016 and 2017. Halep is the only player remaining other than Williams to have won a Grand Slam singles title, having earned the 2018 Roland Garros championship. 

Barbora Strycova brings a 1-0 head-to-head lead into her quarterfinal against home heroine Johanna Konta. Strycova claimed victory in their only meeting on hardcourt in Tokyo in 2017, by the scoreline of 7-5, 7-6(5).

Strycova is into her second Grand Slam quarterfinal; she reached the same stage at Wimbledon in 2014 before falling to eventual champion Petra Kvitova.

Konta's best Wimbledon showing is a semifinal run in 2017, where she became the first British woman since Virginia Wade in 1978 to reach the final four, before losing to Venus Williams.

British No.1 Konta had a tremendous clay-court season, reaching finals at Rome and Rabat and her third career Grand Slam semifinal at Roland Garros. She also reached the Australian Open semifinals in 2016.

Elina Svitolina won her only previous match against Karolina Muchova, a straight-set victory in the Doha quarterfinals earlier this season. The winner of their match on Tuesday will reach the first Grand Slam semifinal of her career.

This is Svitolina's best-ever showing at Wimbledon, having reached the fourth round just once before, in 2017, where she lost to Jelena Ostapenko. This will be the fifth Grand Slam quarterfinal of her career: she fell at that stage twice at the Australian Open and twice at Roland Garros.

After defeating 3rd-seeded compatriot Karolina Pliskova on Monday for her first Top 10 win, Muchova is into her first Grand Slam quarterfinal in just the fourth Grand Slam main draw of her career. Muchova also reached her first WTA singles final earlier this year in Prague, before falling to Jil Teichmann in the championship match.
