Former World No.23 Hsieh Su-wei showed she could still ball with the best in the month of January, and the 32-year-old earned your vote as the first WTA Breakthrough of the Month to begin 2018.
Hsieh edged Belgian Elise Mertens, who won the Hobart International as a springboard to her first Grand Slam semifinal in Melbourne, by just over 600 votes and six percentage points.
Chinese Taipei's star rolled back the years in January, reaching the second week of the Australian Open for the first time since 2008. En route, she upset both Garbiñe Muguruza and Agnieszka Radwanska, ending the Spaniard's chances of rising to World No.1 after the tournament with the victory.
In the fourth round, she gave former champion and eventual semifinalist Angelique Kerber all she could handle for a set and a half, before falling in a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 match.
Hsieh also reached the semifinals in doubles at the Australian Open, as she reuinted with partner Peng Shuai, and also reached the semfinals at the ASB Classic in singles before falling to eventual champion Julia Goerges.
