February 2018 WTA Player of the Month Finalists
Petra Kvitova: The Czech blitzed through the second month of 2018 in grand fashion, capturing a pair of titles at the St. Petersburg Ladies' Trophy and the Qatar Total Open in Doha.
She's currently riding a 13-match winning streak, which included a pair of victories to help send the Czech Republic into the Fed Cup semifinals, and returned to the Top 10 for the first time in nearly 18 months to cap February.
Kvitova came from a set down in three matches in Doha: in the second round against Agnieszka Radwanska, the semifinals against Caroline Wozniacki and the final against Garbiñe Muguruza.
She was also stretched to three sets in a pair of victories against Irina-Camelia Begu and Julia Goerges, and won a sixth three-setter against Switzerland's Viktorija Golubic in Fed Cup.
Champions Corner: Kvitova digs deep to double up in Doha
The lefty was also a perfect 6-0 against the Top 10 in February, including a 3-0 record against the Top 5, and that puts her in the top spot of the WTA Insider Heat Index heading into Indian Wells and Miami this month.
Elina Svitolina: The Ukrainian became the third player on tour to defend a title in 2018 when she raised the trophy at the Dubai Tennis Championships for the second year in a row after beating Daria Kasatkina in the final.
Svitolina dropped just one set en route to victory at the Premier-level event, as she also defeated Wang Qiang, Naomi Osaka and Angelique Kerber before dropping just four games against Kasatkina in the final.
Svitolina and Kvitova lead all players with two titles won this season, as the Ukrainian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International in January.
Garbiñe Muguruza: After not winning consecutive matches in the first month of the season, Muguruza had a strong February with a runner-up finish to Kvitova in Doha and a semifinal showing in Dubai before losing to Kasatkina.
The World No.3 defeated Duan Ying-ying, Sorana Cirstea and Caroline Garcia - the last from a set down - in Doha before receiving a walkover from Simona Halep to reach her first final of the year. In the championship match, she managed to win the first set as she looked to end Kvitova's winning streak, but ultimately fell in a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 battle.
She also added wins over CiCi Bellis and Garcia again in Dubai before succumbing in the last four.
