MIAMI, FL, USA -- No.4 seed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine rebounded from the loss of the first set to cruise past No.26 seed Daria Gavrilova of Australia in the final two sets, advancing to the fourth round of the Miami Open on Sunday by the score of 4-6, 6-0, 6-1.
Svitolina has defeated two Top 30 players in a row after ousting BNP Paribas Open champion Naomi Osaka in the second round, and needed over two hours to get by Gavrilova in a contest filled with bruising, protracted rallies. Svitolina extends her lead in the head-to-head record with Gavrilova to 5-2, and has won their last four matches.
Svitolina finished the match with 28 winners, as opposed to Gavrilova's 17, and the World No.4 won 70 percent of points on her first serve, much more than the Australian's 53 percent success rate. Gavrilova well outpaced the Ukrainian in unforced errors by 47 to 34.
Svitolina will face her third consecutive Top 30 opponent in the round of 16, when she takes on another Australian, No.21 seed Ashleigh Barty. Barty moved past Croat Petra Martic, 6-4, 6-3, earlier on Sunday.

The two superb groundstrokers engaged in numerous tough rallies to start the match, each player being broken twice en route to 4-4. Gavrilova's forehand was clicking in the opening set, and she broke Svitolina a third time to reach 5-4 and serve for a one-set advantage.
Unlike the two previous times Svitolina dropped serve in the set, in this instance, the Ukrainian could not immediately break Gavrilova back. A backhand pass by Svitolina went wide to set up a set point for the Australian, and another unforced error from the forehand wing gave Gavrilova the opening frame. Gavrilova was effective on her second serve, winning 58 percent of those points, to eke out the set.

Svitolina, though, had designs on turning the match around, and came out for the second set with renewed aggression and consistency. The World No.4 was pointedly stronger on her forehand throughout the set, and after holding for 1-0 with a forehand winner, Gavrilova faltered in the next game, dropping serve with back-to-back double faults.
Svitolina cracked another forehand winner to hold for 3-0 after a tough game, and the fourth seed started rolling from there, working Gavrilova into rallies and coming out on top more often than not.
Gavrilova had a chance to stop the streak and avert the bagel, reaching triple game point with an ace while serving down 5-0. But Svitolina worked her way into the game, and took the set 6-0 with a forehand volley and a drop shot on the final two points. Both players had seven winners in the set, but Svitolina had only a single unforced error, while Gavrilova had 15 miscues.

Svitolina extended her winning streak to nine games, breaking Gavrilova for a 2-0 lead on her fourth break chance of a staggering 12-minute game, then holding for 3-0 as more stunning forehands forced errors from the frustrated Australian.
Gavrilova finally held for 3-1, ending the run of games by Svitolina, but after the Australian failed to convert her sole break point of the set in the following game, the march to a Svitolina victory seemed inexorable.
Serving while trailing 4-1, Gavrilova ceded another service break to Svitolina with a double fault and a forehand unforced error in the final two points of the game. The Ukrainian finished the match in the next game with an ace, completing a triumph which saw her clinch 12 of the last 13 games.
