Though the Top 8 in the Porsche Race to Singapore remains unchanged in terms of names in it this week, two of the fastest-rising players continued to make moves in the Race in the first week of the North American summer.

Romania's Mihaela Buzarnescu captured her first title of the season and her career at the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose, and her triumph moves her up three spots in this week's Race to No.15.

Champions Corner: Mihaela Buzarnescu on her 'miracle' season

The 30-year-old was ranked World No.142 at this time last year, but ensured her Top 20 debut in the WTA rankings after finally taking home the trophy in her third final of the season.

She defeated Sachia Vickery, Amanda Anisimova, Ajla Tomljanovic, Elise Mertens and Maria Sakkari to win the Premier-level event.

For Mertens' efforts in San Jose, the Belgian returned to the Top 10 in the Race at No.9. The Australian Open semifinalist contested her fifth semifinal of the season on the California coast, and is the owner of three titles so far this year.

Elsewhere in the Race, breakout American Danielle Collins moved up seven spots to No.22 after reaching the semifinals in San Jose, while beaten finalist Sakkari soared 30 spots to No.41.

As a result of the action at the Citi Open in Washington, D.C., runner-up Donna Vekic of Croatia moved up nine spots to No.28 in the Race, while American Sloane Stephens again leapfrogged Russia's Daria Kasatkina for No.6 after winning a round in her nation's capital.
