With her triumph in the final, she became the first German to lift the Venus Rosewater Dish. since Stefanie Graf in 1996.

"I think it's just amazing. I cannot describe this feeling because when I was a kid I was always dreaming for this moment," she said after the match.

"To win Wimbledon, it's something really special in my career."

The win moved Kerber back into the world's Top 4 on the WTA rankings for the first time since August 2017, and all the way up to No.2 on the Porsche Race to Singapore leaderboard.

Anastasija Sevastova: After Wimbledon, the WTA action moved back to the terre battue, and Anastasija Sevastova shined in Bucharest.

After finishing as runner-up to Simona Halep at the BRD Bucharest Open in 2016 - where she did not win a game in the final - the Latvian had all but good memories of the final in Romanian captial in her second trip.

She defeated Croatia's Petra Martic in straight sets to win her third career WTA title, capping a week in which she twice rallied from a set down to win a match.

Alizé Cornet: Alizé Cornet was another champion on clay courts after WImbledon, as the Frenchwoman captured her sixth career WTA title without losing a set at the Ladies' Championship Gstaad.

The top seed in the Swiss Alps, it was her first WTA triumph in singles in over two years.

Svetlana Kuznetsova: After falling outside of the world's Top 100 for the first time in over a decade after Wimbledon, the Russian rebounded in a big way to win her second Citi Open title in the U.S. capital.

The two-time major champion saved four match points in the championship match against Donna Vekic, after having not dropped a set en route to the final against Kristie Ahn, Ana Bogdan, Yulia Putintseva and Andrea Petkovic.

"In the second set, each of us holding serve, I was some match points down, I just managed to hang in there," Kuznetsova told the media, after her final victory

"I knew I was close, I could turn it around, but of course it was really tight in the second set. Then the third set, I felt [Vekic] was really down on herself and she was tired; I felt better and I found my game."

Former World No.2 Kuznetsova had fallen to World No.128 due to injuries, making her the lowest-ranked player to hoist the title in Washington, but the win put her back to World No.87 in the rankings.

Mihaela Buzarnescu: The Romanian's 'miracle season' continued at the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose in the first stop on the US Open Series, as she claimed her first career WTA title in emphatic fashion.

Appearing in her third WTA final of the season, having lost the first two in three sets, Buzarnescu defeated first-time finalist Maria Sakkari with the loss of just one game, 6-1, 6-0, to raise a trophy for the first time.

With the breakout victory also came Buzarnescu's Top 20 debut, as she rose to a career-high World No.20 in Monday's rankings.

"Now, I think I believe in everything. I started to believe that I could play good when I qualified for the US Open last year," she said after the win. "Everything's [been] better and better for me. I'll just try to focus for each tournament and each game as I did before.

"Maybe people will look differently at me now, but I don't want to change anything...just think of the good moments, and play."
