CHARLESTON, SC, USA – Madison Keys will compete in the 2019 Volvo Car Open, which will be staged in Charleston, South Carolina from March 30 – April 7.
The WTA World No.18 will join a field that already includes Sloane Stephens, the 2017 US Open champion, and 2018 Australian Open winner Caroline Wozniacki.
Keys, who will play the tournament for the seventh successive year, reached the final four of the competition last season, defeating Lara Arruabarrena, Camila Giorgi and Bernarda Pera along the way before succumbing to Kiki Bertens, 6-4, 6-7(2), 7-6(5). Previously, she was runner-up in 2015 and reached the quarterfinals in 2013.
“I love playing the Volvo Car Open,” said Keys. “The fans are truly amazing and I have great memories from the tournament… I reached one of my first finals there. I always look forward to coming back.”
Meanwhile, the organizers are looking forward to having the American No.3 back on the green clay.
“Madison has become a huge fan favorite in Charleston,” said Eleanor Adams, Volvo Car Open Tournament Manager. “Her spirit on and off the court is contagious, and our fans have had the chance to watch her talents grow these last few years. We’re thrilled to welcome this tennis standout back to the Volvo Car Open.”
Keys is seeking to conclude her 2018 season with a fourth Top 20 ranking in as many years, having reached the semifinals at both the US and French Opens, while also making the quarterfinals in Australia.
The Volvo Car Open is the largest women-only tennis tournament in North America, with Kiki Bertens the defending champion after beating Julia Goerges, 6-2, 6-1, in last year’s final.
