SINGAPORE - Serena Williams is already one of the all-time greats. The former World No.1 holds 23 Grand Slam titles, needing just one more to equal the record. 2018 marked her comeback year after time out to give birth to daughter Alexis Olympia and recover from life-threatening surgery - and she did it, as always, in her own inimitable style.

After returning to action in Indian Wells, she reached the Round of 16 at the French Open, before having to withdraw through injury; she was runner-up to Angelique Kerber at Wimbledon; and she backed it up with an impressive run to the final at the US Open, where she lost to Naomi Osaka.

What's more, in those latter two campaigns, she scythed through the field, dropping just one set in both tournaments prior to the final.
