Angelique Kerber says a strong start to 2018 set her up for a fine year, which included a first Wimbledon title.

The German returned to form after a disappointing end to 2017, winning the Sydney International in January before reaching the last four at the Australian Open and then the quarterfinals at the French Open.

"After winning Sydney and coming back to the Australian Open, that gives me a lot of confidence for the next months and rest of the year," the 30-year-old told wtatennis.com.

Success at Wimbledon, where she beat Serena Williams in the final, followed, before she competed in the year-end WTA Finals as top seed. "Wimbledon was always my biggest dream, when I was kid," she added. "That was the biggest moment in my career, a special moment. Overall it was a really good year for me."
