The WTA has a new ace leader and her last name isn't "Pliskova". On the strength of her red-hot form over the last two months, Julia Goerges has taken the lead with the most aces on tour with 304, just edging out World No.1 Karolina Pliskova's previous mark of 301.

Karolina Pliskova has sat atop the ace leaderboard for most of the season, only briefly being overtaken by her twin sister during the grass season.


Goerges's tour-leading 304 aces came across 46 matches (Pliskova has played 45 matches). The German fired 46 aces last week at the Citi Open, where she was playing her third final in her last five tournaments, narrowly losing out in three sets to Ekaterina Makarova.

Goerges has hit 10 or more aces in seven matches this season, trailing only Krystina Pliskova, who has tallied 10 or more in 11 matches, and Karolina Pliskova, who has cracked double-digits nine times. Goerges' best effort came in the quarterfinals in Budapest, where she fired 13 aces in a 6-1, 7-5 win over Yanina Wickmayer.

The 28-year-old German is in the midst of a resurgent season. Her three finals over the last two months came on three different surfaces, first on the grass at the Mallorca Open, clay at the BRD Bucharest Open, and last week on hard court at the Citi Open. Goerges, who reached a career-high at No.15 in 2012, is now up to No.35, her highest ranking since June 2013.

Goerges is back in action this week at the Rogers Cup, where she faces CiCi Bellis in the first round.
