TORONTO, Canada - Playing in the first match on the first day of the Rogers Cup in Toronto, Daria Kasatkina already laid claim to the shot of the week. 

In just the second game of Monday's match against Roberta Vinci, the 20-year-old capped a stunning rally with a tweener passing shot - which drew praise in the moment from her veteran Italian opponent and later on social media.

After the fact, the hot shot drew praise from Kasatkina's peers on Twitter, including fellow 1997-babies Ana Konjuh and Belinda Bencic, and best friend and fellow "Dasha," Daria Gavrilova.

Kasatkina largely took her new-found fame in stride - for the most part - even though, deep down, she might've been expecting it all along.

"When I was small, maybe 10 years old, I don't know why - I was dreaming to learn how to play tweeners," Kasatkina told WTA Insider after the match. "In our apartment, there was one wall without anything - I was making a lob, and playing the tweener two hours per day, every day. I was practicing this on purpose, and today it paid off.

In practice, sometimes I was making the winners, but in a match it was the first time - with the cameras! Thank god it was caught with the cameras, because I have proof!"

The Russian eventually advanced with a 7-6(3), 7-6(1) win over Vinci, and will face No.5 seed Elina Svitolina in the second round.
