NEW HAVEN, CT, USA - It’s the 20-year anniversary of the Connecticut Open in New Haven, and to celebrate we’ve pulled 20 of the most interesting stats and numbers from the tournament’s storied history.

$776,000: The total prize money awarded (in USD) in the 2017 edition of the Connecticut Open.

470: The amount of ranking points awarded to the singles winner; the runner-up will receive 305.

249: The exact number of players that have competed for the title at the Connecticut Open (main draw) in the tournament’s history.

45: Those 249 players represented 45 different countries, from the United States to Croatia, Japan to Kazakhstan.

35 (171): The oldest main-draw participant in tournament history is Mirjana Lucic-Baroni, who is 35 years, 171 days old* and competing at this year’s edition. She beats Ai Sugiyama’s previous age record of 34 years, 55 days in 2009.

29 (80): The oldest champion in New Haven history is Lindsay Davenport, who lifted the trophy in 2005 at 29 years, 80 days old.

27: Caroline Wozniacki holds the record for most main-draw match wins; her New Haven win-loss record is 27-5.

21: August 21 is the second day of main-draw play, and it features a once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse. New Haven is not in the path of totality, but a partial eclipse can be viewed at 2:45pm local time, and will take place during play.


20: Founded in 1998, this year's edition will be the 20th staging of the WTA event in New Haven.

18 (43): The youngest champion in New Haven history is Caroline Wozniacki, who was 18 years, 43 days old when she lifted the trophy in 2008.

17: New Haven is the 17th Premier-level tournament of the year on the WTA’s 2017 calendar, out of 21 in total.

16 (216): The youngest player ever to play a main-draw match in New Haven was Tatiana Golovin in 2004, who was 16 years, 216 days old*.

16-0: Four-time champion Venus Williams holds a perfect 16-0 win-loss record in New Haven.

11: There have been 11 different players who have won the New Haven title over the tournament’s 20-year history.

10: The record for most main-draw appearances goes to Daniela Hantuchova with 10. She competed in 2002-08, 2010 and 2012-13.

9: Caroline Wozniacki is not far behind Hantuchova with nine main-draw appearances; the Dane is also tied with Elena Dementieva and Amelie Mauresmo.

7: New Haven draw is usually stacked, and this year is no different, with seven of the WTA’s Top 20 vying for the last trophy before the US Open: Agnieszka Radwanska, Dominika Cibulkova, Petra Kvitova, Kristina Mladenovic, Elena Vesnina and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

6: Lindsay Davenport reached the championship match a tournament-record six times, winning the title in 2005.

4: Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki are tied for most New Haven titles, with four apiece. Venus took home the trophy in 1999-2002 and Wozniacki in 2008-11.

2: The amount of former champions featuring in this year’s main draw: three-time champion Petra Kvitova and last year’s winner Agnieszka Radwanska.
