Chinese teenager Wang Xinyu will take her place in the main draw for the first Grand Slam of 2018 after she beat Abigail Tere-Apisah 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the final of the Australian Open Asia-Pacific Wildcard Playoff.
The 16-year-old had already defeated top seed Misaki Doi in the previous round, coming from one set down to secure the win.
Tere-Apisah was looking to become the first player from Papua New Guinea to compete in a Grand Slam main draw, and had made it past Lu Jing-Jing in straight sets in the other semifinal.
