- Was coached by father, Karolj, until his death in May 1998; holds especially dear the memory of first playing tennis with him in a parking lot; mother's name is Ester… Has a brother, Zoltan, with whom she moved from Yugoslavia to Florida at age 12, to train at the Nick Bollettieri Academy… Became a US citizen in Miami on March 16, 1994... Played last match of career at 2003 Roland Garros… Appointed as a member of the Laureus World Sports Academy in 2005… Received Hungarian citizenship in 2007, due to family roots… Inducted into International Tennis Hall of Fame in the Class of 2009… An advocate for mental health and eating disorder issues, her memoir, ‘Getting a Grip: On My Body, My Mind, My Self’ was published in 2010… Has also published two novels for younger readers, set in tennis academy environments.
