Fiona Ferro has won her only previous match against Mihaela Buzarnescu. That came in an ITF event in Mamaia in 2016, when the Frenchwoman took a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Buzarnescu is the final seed standing in the lower half of the draw. Tatjana Maria and Caroline Garcia were beaten by Allie Kiick and Bernarda Pera respectively.
The greatest shock of the event came in the first round as wildcard Simona Waltert, WTA World No.562, edged past No.1 seed Julia Goerges as the German was forced to retire.
It was just Waltert's second victory over a Top 200 player - the other came against Thursday's opponent Jil Teichmann, who she defeated in an ITF event in Lenzerheide in 2017, 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-0.
Allie Kiick has a 1-0 career head-to-head record against Samantha Stosur. The pair met in a Cincinnati qualifier in 2018, with the American taking a 7-6(4), 6-1 win.
Anastasia Potapova and Tamara Korpatsch have never faced each other.
